How To Clean Cement Off Upvc Windows

1. Hi,

   I've got 6 month old cement on the glass and frames of my windows. I'm struggling to shift it using Big Wipes and was wondering if anyone has any tried-and-tested solutions?

4. Brick cleaning acid will attack the cement but if your frames have paint as well it is not the way forward. If PVC let the acid do the work and wash off afterwards

   On bricks I use a nail brush to apply as it is all plastic. It will not harm the glass or the PVC but avoid rubbing as that will scratch by dragging the aggregate

   Next time wash if off as soon as it gets on or better still put some protection on

5. I have PVC double glazing and some of the cement is on the glass but a majority is on the frames. How long do I leave it on for and I assume that there is no risk of damaging the plastic?

   Will the cement then wipe off with a normal cloth? Thanks for your help.

6. Avoid the wipe as that just drags aggregate across the soft pvc. Hose it off. With brick cleaning acid you will see the cement bubbling as it is attacked leave it a few minutes then reapply if required until you don't get a reaction from the cement. It is no good on lumps of cement only smears.

7. I find a gentle tap with a blunt chisel works well, then wipe of any left with one of those green scouring pads.

10. I think that would work fairly well with lumps as you will probably only be left with a cement mark rather than bits of aggregate. You will have to be careful with the glass.

11. With glass, you use a sharp chisel, and carefully chip away at it. Glass is a lot tougher than most people realise.
